Magoha says decision to open schools lies with Uhuru

Education cabinet secretary has announced that the decision to reopen more than 100,000 schools lies with president Uhuru.

He was speaking at Siaya institute of technology accompanied by the Siaya County governor Cornell Rasanga to assess its preparedness for reopening.

In his statements, Professor Magoha said that the biggest challenge to the government is ensuring that adequate measures are in place to enable schools reopen. He also noted that the decision to reopen the schools lies with the president, saying that he is the only person who can decide whether to take the risk.

During his visit to Siaya institute, the Cs was asked by the county governor Amoth Rasanga to intervene to hasten the process of extending the Odera Akang’o university campus.

The governor explained that the National Land Commission allocated 80 hectares of land for the purposes of the university expansion but the required documents for authenticating the process had delayed.

“We are seeking the indulgence of ministry of education to intervene with his land counterparts to hasten the process of the Odera Akang’o university campus extension.” Governor Rasanga said.

Professor Magoha had earlier this month said that schools may not reopen in January 2021 as expected due to lack of enough funds to support infrastructural expansion.
