Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, has urged Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to reconsider his position within the party, citing a significant shift in political dynamics.
In a post on his X account on April 6, 2026, Salasya described Sifuna as merely a temporary occupant in ODM, suggesting that the party no longer serves as a true political home for him but rather a “waiting room.”
“Sifuna, this is your final boarding call! ODM is not your home; it’s a waiting room, and your name is already being called,” Salasya stated.
Salasya emphasized that Sifuna had misjudged his influence within the party, pointing out that prominent figures like Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino hold greater power.
“You believed you were part of the system, but you are just a visitor being shown around. Orengo and Babu are the landlords; you are a tenant without a lease!” he remarked.
He advised the Nairobi Senator to leave the party before facing a quiet removal, noting that public sentiment, particularly on social media, has turned against him.
“Here’s some free advice: leave now before you are quietly ‘restructured’ out. The trends on Facebook don’t lie; the narrative has completely changed. Don’t wait to be swallowed whole; exit with your dignity intact,” Salasya urged.
In a formal development, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) issued a show-cause notice to Senator Edwin Sifuna on April 2, 2026, citing serious misconduct that could lead to his removal from office.
According to the notice, the National Executive Committee (NEC) met on February 11, 2026, and decided to initiate proceedings against Sifuna for actions deemed inconsistent with the party’s constitution and resolutions.
This process aligns with Article 74 of the ODM Constitution, which ensures that officials receive notification of allegations and the opportunity to respond before any final decisions are made.
The notice details several charges against Sifuna, beginning with his statements during a local TV interview on July 22, 2025, where he allegedly declared the ODM–UDA Memorandum of Understanding “dead.” This declaration, according to Wanga, contradicted the party’s official stance and undermined its collective authority.
“Dear Sen. Sifuna, RE: NOTICE TO SHOW CAUSE. Please take notice that under Article 74(2) of the Orange Democratic Movement Party Constitution, the National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved to initiate proceedings for your removal based on acts of gross misconduct,” the letter states.
