Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado skipped a meeting invite by the ODM party Officials to Chungwa House on Thursday the 15th of October 2020. It is alleged that the party was to discuss general affairs of Migori County and Obado’s pending impeachment.
Governor Zachary Okoth Obado had been alienated from ODM party’s inner circle when the Party recommended his impeachment after being barred from accessing office by court over a graft case. The DPP had approved his arrest and prosecution over an alleged embezzlement of 73.4 million county funds. Zachary Okoth was charged alongside his four children.
Citing short notice, Obado communicated to the party asking for the meeting to be rescheduled. “The invite was a bit urgent but i had other engagements. This should not be viewed as an act of defiance and i have since communicated to the party” said Obado.
Obado skipping the meeting comes days after he had reached out to the party in attempt to reconsile with the party ,as stated by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna. This is said to have happened at the Kang’o Ka Jaramogi meeting in Bondo that happened on the 10th of October 2020
Obado had as well pledged allegiance to the party leader Raila Odinga in the 10th October meeting saying he had support for Raila’s bid for presidency and the Bulding Bridges Initiative (BBI).
