Ledama Olekina: Ruto To Ge 90% of Maasai Vote

Narok County Senator Ledama Olekina has forecasted that President William Ruto will capture an impressive 90 percent of the Maasai vote in the upcoming election, attributing this shift to the president’s forward-thinking development agenda.

In a recent interview with Herman Manyora on his podcast, Olekina, who previously criticized Ruto, expressed that his perspective changed after observing significant infrastructure projects benefiting the Maasai community.

He highlighted the construction of Narok International Airport and the railway line extension as key factors influencing his support.

Olekina noted that the new railway now runs through his village, revolutionizing local business practices.

“I no longer need to transport my cattle by truck and endure an eight-hour delay in Mai Mahiu. Now, I can load them in a wagon and deliver them directly to the Kenya Meat Commission. This experience shifted my opinion about President Ruto’s progressiveness,” Olekina explained.

He emphasized that the Maasai community is eager for inclusion in government decisions.

Olekina anticipates that the “Maa vote” from regions such as Marsabit, Isiolo, Samburu, Laikipia, Nakuru, Baringo, Kajiado, Taita, and Mombasa will unite in support of the president.

“The Maasai have long been sidelined, and I firmly believe we will not remain in opposition any longer,” he asserted.

“To be frank, unless I relocate, Ruto will secure 90 percent of the Maasai votes,” Olekina stated.

Although he remains a member of the ODM party, Olekina clarified his support for the current government, emphasizing the importance of fairness and inclusion for national progress.

In response to online criticisms regarding the Narok Airport, Olekina took to his official X account, countering claims that the president misled the public about the airport’s progress.

“Naysayers can complain about the Narok International Airport. We, the residents of Narok, know the truth,” Olekina wrote.

He reported that the runway is currently 60 percent complete, citing delays caused by heavy rains in February and March.

Olekina challenged social media critics to visit the construction site before forming opinions.

“The runway is at 60 percent completion, hindered by the heavy rains. The terminal building is Narok County’s responsibility, not Ruto’s. Many of you criticizing on social media haven’t even visited the site! The facts remain unchanged. If you oppose President Ruto, that’s your choice, but it won’t alter the reality,” Olekina concluded.
