Oscar Sudi, the Member of Parliament for Kapseret Constituency, has launched a vigorous critique against Siaya Governor James Orengo, accusing him of endorsing what Sudi terms the “politics of poverty” instead of fostering a development-oriented leadership.
In a statement shared on his X handle on April 20, 2026, Sudi expressed his discontent, asserting that Orengo’s longstanding presence in Kenyan politics has not translated into tangible benefits for the everyday citizen.
“Throughout my life, I have witnessed Orengo’s political journey, but it has been marked by an emphasis on poverty rather than reform. He lacks a proven record of development and appears to lead people into hardship,” Sudi remarked.
The outspoken legislator further dismissed Orengo’s claims of being a reformist, highlighting the absence of any substantial achievements after decades in leadership. Sudi emphasized that true leadership should be evaluated based on real economic improvements and the empowerment of the populace, rather than mere rhetoric or political activism.
Sudi also criticized Orengo for allegedly inciting protests instead of contributing to nation-building efforts. He challenged Orengo to involve his own family in the protests before encouraging others to join.
“Instead of misleading Gen Z to take to the streets, he should begin with his own children,” Sudi stated.
Amidst this backdrop, Orengo has called for protests in June, aligning with the anti-government factions, including the Linda Mwananchi group within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). During a rally on April 19, 2026, Orengo announced that the Linda Mwananchi movement would join forces with Gen Z during their anniversary protests in June, signaling a renewed phase of political mobilization.
