NPS Recovers Stolen Cattle in Laikipia Anti-Banditry Operation

The National Police Service (NPS) has successfully recovered 101 stolen cows during a coordinated operation in Mukogodo Forest, Laikipia County.

In a statement released on Monday, April 14, 2026, NPS officials highlighted that these operations aim to combat cattle rustling and banditry in Laikipia County and surrounding areas.

“Building on ongoing security efforts to address cattle rustling and banditry, a multi-agency team executed a targeted operation yesterday in Mukogodo Forest,” the NPS reported.

The patrol focused on the regions of Arjijo, Anandangu’ro, and Lokosero, identified as hotspots for banditry and livestock theft. This effort led to the successful recovery of 101 stolen cattle.

The officers confirmed that all recovered livestock were safely escorted to a police station, where they are currently being held for proper identification and verification before being returned to their rightful owners.

“This recovery highlights the significant progress made in combating criminal activities and dismantling the networks responsible for insecurity in the region through sustained multi-agency operations, increased surveillance, and community cooperation,” the NPS stated.

The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements, ensuring that affected communities regain confidence in the security of their property.

In a related development, the Laikipia recovery follows a successful operation in Meru County just two days earlier, where security forces recovered 77 stolen cattle.

In a statement released on the night of Saturday, April 11, 2026, the NPS characterized the operation as a significant breakthrough in the fight against livestock theft.

The operation was initiated based on a tip-off from community members who reported that a large herd of stolen cows was being driven toward the Kachiuru area by suspected bandits.

“A coordinated multi-agency response, bolstered by actionable information from the public, led to the successful recovery of stolen livestock in Meru County,” the NPS noted.

“Officers from the National Police Service acted on a report indicating that 77 cows had been taken by suspected bandits and were being driven toward the Kachiuru area.”
