Nominated member of parliament Sabina Chege has said that Azimio would have formed the if she’d have been the Raila’s running mate.
Sabina Chege further said that selling Raila Odinga in Mt. Kenya was a difficult task, but she tried her level best.
“I did not vie because I wanted to fight for the party. Despite us being called names and being told to go sell Baba (Raila) which was very difficult, you saw me in the entire country. At some point, I was named among the potential presidential running mates. I wish they had given me that chance; we would have won,” she said.
In the 2022 general elections, Raila chose Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua to be his running mate. That was after a series of consultative meetings and ‘examinations’ that several leaders were subjected to. Other potential candidates were Wycliffe Oparanya, Kalonzo Musyoka, Sabina Chege and Peter Kenneth.
Martha Karau emerged as the best suited person to deputise Raila, in the election that Azimio lost by a whisker to the current administration of Kenya Kwanza.
Sabina Chege further said President William Ruto’s Jubilee allies supported Azimio and believed in the Handshake between Raila and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I earned this position, it was not a favour given to me. The only way I qualified is because of the elected members of the National Assembly. If it was not for them I would not have gotten this,” she said.
