DCI Probes Discovery of Four Bodies in Mwingi

Forensic detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kitui County have begun investigating after discovering four bodies in a suspected mass grave, raising concerns about potential killings in the area.

On Tuesday, June 10, 2026, police, led by Mwingi Sub-county commander Anthony Maina, acted on a tip from a local resident who reported something unusual at the site, leading to the grim discovery.

Maina encouraged the community to report any suspicious activity, assuring them of their safety: “If you see something unusual, speak up! Your safety matters, and we need your help.”

The search intensified after police found a dismembered body on June 8, prompting a wider operation and the deployment of forensic teams to Mwingi.

Authorities urge anyone with a missing relative to visit Mwingi Central Police Sub-County headquarters for identification assistance. “All bodies were found naked and in separate graves. Please report if someone is missing,” Maina emphasized.

Tension remains high among residents, who fear a serial killer or criminal syndicate may be at work. This discovery follows the recent finding of two mutilated bodies in the same area, one of which was missing a head.

Residents express concern that victims may be murdered elsewhere before their bodies are discarded in Mwingi. “It feels like people are being killed and brought here,” one resident remarked.

Kitui Woman Representative Irene Kasalu called for urgent investigations, highlighting the alarming frequency of these discoveries. “This is the fourth body found here in just four weeks. We must uncover the truth,” she stated.

The four bodies have been transferred to Mwingi General Hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem examinations as police continue their investigation into these tragic events.
