Chuck Norris Dies at 86, Family Confirms

Chuck Norris, the martial arts champion who became a defining action star of the Eighties, passed away on Thursday at the age of 86.

His family confirmed the news on Instagram Friday morning, following reports of Norris being hospitalized in Hawaii earlier that week due to an unspecified medical emergency. While they chose to keep the cause of death private, they reassured the public that he was surrounded by family and found peace in his final moments.

In their heartfelt statement, the family expressed, “To the world, he represented martial arts, acting, and strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family. He lived with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. Through his discipline, kindness, and work, he inspired millions globally and left an indelible mark on countless lives.”

They continued, “While our hearts are broken, we remain deeply grateful for the life he led and the unforgettable moments we shared. The love and support he received from fans worldwide meant everything to him, and our family sincerely appreciates it. To him, you were not just fans; you were his friends.”

Norris emerged as one of the most prolific action stars of the 1970s and Eighties, featuring in a blend of major studio films and independent martial arts productions. His 1983 film, *Lone Wolf McQuade*, where he portrayed a Marine-turned-Texas Ranger, inspired the successful TV series *Walker, Texas Ranger*, which aired for nine seasons and 203 episodes on CBS during the Nineties and early 2000s.

His authentic martial arts skills, coupled with the commanding, no-nonsense demeanor of his characters, made Norris a prime target for early internet memes. “Chuck Norris facts” humorously exaggerated his feats, with lines such as, “Chuck Norris doesn’t flush toilets; he scares the shit out of them,” and “Chuck Norris has a grizzly bear rug in his bedroom. It’s not dead; it’s just too scared to move.” Norris embraced this internet phenomenon, making appearances on *Late Night With Conan O’Brien*, where he read these facts and participated in comedic sketches.
