The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced an exciting opportunity for qualified teachers by re-advertising 1,631 promotional vacancies. This initiative invites serving teachers to compete for prestigious leadership roles in both primary and secondary schools.
The announcement, published on MyGov on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, includes sought-after positions such as Deputy Headteacher II, Deputy Principal III, and Senior Master II, all of which adhere to the Career Progression Guidelines for Teachers.
Among the available roles, the majority—1,470 positions—are for Deputy Headteacher II at Grade C4, T-Scale 9, featured under Advert No. 110/2026. Additionally, there are 132 vacancies for Deputy Principal III at Grade D1, T-Scale 11, listed under Advert No. 108/2026, and 29 Senior Master II positions at the same grade and salary scale under Advert No. 109/2026.
The TSC has set a deadline for applications: September 14, 2026. Qualified teachers are encouraged to apply online via the TSC recruitment portal. Applications will close at midnight on Monday, September 14, 2026. It is important to note that only online submissions will be accepted; manual applications will not be considered.
Teachers who previously applied for these positions during the earlier advertisement and submitted their applications successfully do not need to reapply, providing them with some relief in the application process.
Successful candidates will be assigned to schools and institutions where vacancies exist, which may include locations other than their current workplaces. The TSC, established under Article 237(1) of the Constitution, assures that the recruitment process will align with the Career Progression Guidelines for Teachers.
Furthermore, TSC emphasizes its commitment to being an equal opportunity employer and encourages individuals with disabilities who meet the qualifications to apply.
This re-advertisement follows a significant promotion initiative launched in July 2026, which revealed 34,016 competitive promotional posts across primary and secondary schools, as well as teacher training colleges. This effort was made possible by the allocation of funds aimed at supporting teacher promotions and alleviating career stagnation within the teaching service. Applications for this earlier initiative closed on August 10, leading to the interview phase for shortlisted candidates.
The current advertisement encompasses three categories of positions, presenting another chance for teachers aspiring to advance their careers. The Deputy Headteacher II role involves administrative duties in primary schools, including assisting the headteacher with school management, curriculum implementation, and staff supervision. The Deputy Principal III and Senior Master II roles, both at Grade D1, are pivotal in secondary schools and carry T-Scale 11.
Under the 2025–2029 collective bargaining agreement, the salary range for Grade C4 is approximately Ksh57,667 to Ksh72,988, while Grade D1 ranges from about Ksh80,500 to Ksh97,827, prior to allowances and statutory deductions.
Teachers interested in these vacancies should review the Career Progression Guidelines to verify their eligibility, update their online profiles, and ensure they submit their applications before the September 14 deadline. While the TSC has not disclosed specific station-by-station details for the vacancies, successful candidates should remain flexible and prepared for assignments to institutions where openings are available.
