President William Ruto has urged Kenyans to be cautious about political groups that lack a clear vision, plan, and agenda, emphasizing that the nation cannot risk “trial and error” leadership.
During his visit to Ugenya in Nyanza, Ruto positioned his broad-based coalition as the ideal political vehicle for Kenya’s development. He encouraged voters to support leaders with a verifiable track record they can trust.
“Let us safeguard our nation’s future. We must not subject our country to experiments led by individuals who lack vision, plans, and a clear agenda,” Ruto stated.
He highlighted the need for a political coalition grounded in a solid program and proven delivery, rather than one based on personalities or temporary alliances.
“Kenya deserves a political formation with a trustworthy track record that the people can rely on,” he asserted.
Ruto emphasized the importance of a coalition with a clear roadmap and vision for elevating Kenya, asserting that the broad-based coalition embodies these qualities.
He criticized his political opponents for attempting to turn the country into an experiment without offering a coherent alternative.
“Those individuals want to gamble with our nation’s future. They lack plans, policies, and agendas,” Ruto remarked.
He described his opponents as a “gang” unfit to lead the country responsibly.
“Our beloved nation, Kenya, is too valuable to be entrusted to a group that is uninformed and lacking direction,” he said, condemning political formations built around personality cults and transient alliances.
The President conveyed a message of national inclusion from Nyanza, promising to leverage the 2027 election to combat ethnic politics and address issues of exclusion and marginalization.
“We declare from Nyanza that our nation deserves better than such leadership. The broad-based coalition is the only alliance with a proven track record, a solid plan, and a clear vision,” Ruto affirmed.
He declared 2027 a pivotal year for the people of Kenya, a chance to eliminate ethnic politics and unite all citizens.
Senior ODM leaders echoed Ruto’s message, pledging their support for the broad-based coalition and cautioning against alliances involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
ODM national chairperson Gladys Wanga emphasized the party’s commitment to collaborate with Ruto, highlighting the need for equitable development across the country.
“We, as ODM, have decided to join you on this journey. We recognize that others may have distanced themselves from you, not due to any fault of yours, but because you are committed to ensuring development reaches every region,” Wanga stated.
She firmly rejected any political arrangements involving Gachagua, reinforcing ODM’s stance.
“Where Gachagua is involved, we will not engage,” she declared.
Junet Mohamed acknowledged that some politicians had turned away from Ruto due to his partnership with ODM, but he reaffirmed ODM’s dedication to the broad-based coalition.
MDG Party leader David Ochieng expressed unwavering support for Ruto, emphasizing Nyanza’s commitment to the President due to ongoing development projects in the region.
“We will not forget you. We will continue to stand with you. Nyanza is behind you, and we will not let you down,” Ugenya MP Ochieng stated.
He highlighted the significance of the projects being implemented, asserting that it would be unwise to abandon Ruto after witnessing the positive changes.
“With the numerous projects you have initiated here, it would be foolish for me to turn away and allow anyone else to claim your support in this constituency,” he remarked.
Ochieng warned that any politician seeking support in Nyanza through Gachagua or the opposition would face significant challenges in winning votes.
“Anyone aligning with Gachagua or the opposition will find it impossible to secure even a single vote in Nyanza,” he asserted.
The President spoke after witnessing the launch of the Sihay-Bar Ober-Sega road project, a 65.2-kilometer initiative valued at Sh2.7 billion.
This road project is part of Ruto’s broader development agenda in Nyanza, where he aims to connect infrastructure investment with his administration’s inclusive political message.
Ruto is focused on demonstrating that the broad-based coalition not only serves as a governing arrangement but also as the foundation for a more extensive political alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.
His challenge lies in convincing voters that this partnership can ensure continuity and progress while transcending the traditional ethnic and regional divides that have historically influenced elections.
For ODM leaders supporting the coalition, the message increasingly revolves around development, political unity, and a firm opposition to any alliances involving Gachagua.
Treasury CS John Mbadi also endorsed the unity message, affirming that the Luo community will remain unified beyond the 2027 election into 2032.
This emerging alliance signifies a notable shift in Nyanza politics, as Ruto seeks to transform his administration’s development achievements and collaboration with ODM into robust political backing in the region.
