Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria confidently asserts that President William Ruto can achieve re-election in 2027, even without the backing of the Mt Kenya region. He emphasizes that national voting trends favor the Kenya Kwanza leader.
During his remarks on Sunday, August 9, 2026, Kuria highlighted that even a modest performance from Ruto in Mt Kenya would signify a significant political success. “If the president secures 13% of the vote in Mt. Kenya, that would represent a substantial win for him. It would exceed his requirements,” Kuria stated.
Kuria predicts that the President will secure re-election without needing a single vote from the Mt Kenya region, confidently asserting, “Figures don’t lie.”
These comments arise amidst escalating political tensions in Mt Kenya, where some leaders aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration for neglecting the region.
Additionally, Kuria downplays the stability of the opposition coalition, arguing that it lacks a cohesive ideological foundation. “The opposition coalition resembles a house built on sand; it is unreliable. Only the people of Mt Kenya genuinely oppose Ruto from their hearts. Others join merely for personal gain,” he remarked.

Regarding the deputy president position in the upcoming election, Kuria asserts that Ruto should have the autonomy to select his running mate without external pressure from regional leaders. “I will support whoever the president chooses as his running mate. It is imperative that the president retains the freedom to make that choice,” he stated.
