Ruto Hails UDA Sweep in By-Elections

President William Ruto has welcomed the strong performance of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the February 26 by-elections, describing the victories as proof of the party’s growing national support and organisational strength.

UDA fielded candidates in four mini-polls — one parliamentary contest and three ward races — and emerged victorious in all of them. The party contested the Isiolo South parliamentary seat as well as the Muminji, Evurore and West Kabras ward positions.

In the Isiolo South parliamentary race, UDA candidate Mohamed Tubi secured a decisive win after garnering 7,352 votes. He defeated Jubilee Party candidate Bina Mohammed, who polled 634 votes, while Isack Abduba Fayo of the National Economic Development Party came third with 44 votes. Returning Officer Abdi Sheikh later declared Tubi the MP-elect and handed him the official certificate.

UDA also performed strongly in the ward contests. Duncan Muratia won the Evurore ward seat with 7,853 votes, beating Albert Muchira of the Democratic Party of Kenya, who received 1,940 votes. In Muminji ward, Peterson Njau clinched victory with 3,207 votes ahead of DEB candidate Boniface Ngari, who garnered 2,232 votes.

In Western Kenya, Elphas Shalakha secured the West Kabras ward seat with 3,317 votes, defeating DCP candidate Bramwel Khaemba, who managed 2,640 votes.

Reacting to the results, Ruto said the clean sweep reflects continued public confidence in UDA and its development agenda. He suggested the outcome could signal positive prospects for the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The president congratulated all the winning candidates and thanked party supporters across the country for what he termed unwavering commitment to building a strong and enduring political movement.
