Gachagua Seeks Security Ahead of Kikuyu Rally Over Disruption Fears

Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party, has formally requested enhanced security from Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja ahead of a public rally scheduled for Saturday, April 11, in Kikuyu town. He expressed concerns about potential disruptions that may target this event.

The former Deputy President has raised alarms about a purported plan to deploy individuals aimed at creating chaos and preventing the rally from proceeding as intended. In his letter, he stated, “The organized goons are set to create mayhem, vandalize businesses, and attack specific establishments to provoke police intervention, which may involve the use of tear gas.”

Gachagua indicated that a meeting took place in Limuru on Thursday, where this alleged scheme was devised. He further claimed that the plan entails blocking major roads leading to and from Kikuyu town, aiming to restrict access to the rally venue and potentially expose his convoy to attacks.

According to Gachagua, this alleged strategy includes positioning heavy vehicles along key highways under the guise of mechanical failures, effectively impeding movement and disrupting logistical arrangements for the rally.

He sought to clarify that his party does not condone the planned violence and distanced himself from any incidents at previous public engagements. He highlighted a series of peaceful political visits across the country, the latest being in Kiambu County.

Gachagua referenced earlier events, including visits to Kamwangi and Gatukuyu shopping centers in Gakoe, Gatundu North constituency on April 5; Darasha and Juja Town in Maraba, Juja constituency on April 4; Wangige town in Kabete constituency on March 23; and another engagement in Githunguri Town, Githunguri constituency on March 21.

“All these meetings proceeded peacefully and in an orderly manner. What distinguishes Kikuyu Town as a potential site for violence?” he questioned.
