We’ll address challenges at Moi University – Ruto

President William Ruto has announced plans to resolve the financial and management issues currently facing Moi University. Speaking at the opening of the Ngeria Technical Training Institute in Kapseret Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, the President revealed that he has established a committee to evaluate the extent of the challenges at the university and recommend appropriate solutions.

“We will implement an efficient management team and allocate sufficient resources to ensure that Moi University can flourish like other public universities,” President Ruto stated.

The President was joined by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Governors Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu) and Stephen Sang (Nandi) during the event, where he also inaugurated a state-of-the-art ICT lab at the training institute.

In his remarks, President Ruto highlighted the government’s initiative to lay 100,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable, aimed at connecting 100,000 public institutions to the Internet. He urged the youth to leverage digital technology for productive purposes, emphasizing the importance of using the Internet to generate income rather than engaging in unlawful activities.

He expressed concern over the negative trends emerging among the youth, particularly the misuse of social media for immoral activities, including the creation of computer-generated images depicting individuals in coffins. “Instead of using the Internet to post people in coffins, utilize it to monetize your talents and create job opportunities,” he advised.

The President criticized leaders who encourage such behavior, calling for responsible guidance to instill good morals among the youth. “Those promoting the trend of placing individuals in coffins should reconsider their actions, as they risk fostering a self-destructive generation,” he warned.

Earlier in Cheboror, Kesses Constituency, President Ruto connected the family of Mzee Simeon Nyango to power under the Rural Electrification Programme. He announced that the government is investing KSh1.8 billion to connect 20,000 households to electricity in Uasin Gishu County over the next three years. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to connect one million households nationwide within the same timeframe.

The President encouraged Kenyans to remain united and support the country’s transformation agenda, urging them not to be misled by naysayers. “We can only progress as a nation if we stand together. Unity is essential for building a country we can all take pride in,” he remarked.

Highlighting recent achievements, President Ruto noted significant economic stabilization efforts over the past two years. He pointed out that the dollar had previously soared to KSh160 against the Kenyan shilling but has since decreased to KSh128. Additionally, he reported that inflation has dropped from 9.6% in 2022 to 2.8%, the lowest in nearly two decades.

The President also referenced the subsidized fertilizer program, which has contributed to increased food production and a subsequent reduction in food prices.

During his tour of Uasin Gishu County, President Ruto inspected the construction progress at the Kimuri Earth Dam in Kapseret, the upgrading of the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret City, and the opening of the Turbo Sub-County offices. He was accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, MPs, MCAs, and various other leaders at the events.
