Rachel Wandeto Dies After Mwiki Petrol Attack in Nairobi

Gospel artist Rachel Wandeto, who suffered severe burns from an attack, has tragically passed away in the hospital. She sustained 70% burns and fought for her life at Kenyatta National Hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning.

The attack, where unknown assailants poured petrol on her and set her ablaze in Nairobi’s Mwiki area, has sparked public outrage. Initial reports suggest the incident may have political motivations, especially following Wandeto’s public support for President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.

Her colleague, Karangu Muraya, confirmed her passing, expressing deep sorrow and calling her a great soul. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen condemned the attack and instructed police to expedite investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Murkomen emphasized the dangers of politically motivated violence, urging political leaders to refrain from inciting hatred and violence. He warned that such behavior contributes to acts like this.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack may be linked to her political views. Wandeto gained attention earlier this year after tattooing President Ruto’s image on her body, which reportedly led to familial disputes.

Witnesses reported that three masked men attacked her, demanding money in exchange for her political support. When she stated she had nothing, they set her on fire and fled the scene.

Wandeto suffered extensive burns and was initially treated at Uzima Uhai Hospital before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital. Despite the widespread condemnation and calls for justice, no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing. Police were alerted shortly after the attack occurred, and they are actively pursuing leads to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident.
