Global Peace Foundation founder and chairman Dr. Hyun Jin Preston Moon has saluted the late President Mwai Kibaki and said the nation of Kenya and the continent of Africa have lost a great statesman who ushered in Kenya’s new constitution and laid the foundation for Kenya’s social, economic transformation including free primary education, infrastructure development, and respect for human rights.
On behalf of my family and Global Peace Foundation leaders throughout the world, I send to you, the people of Kenya this message of condolence on the passing of President Mwai Kibaki” said Dr. Moon in a message of condolences sent to Kenyan President His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta.
Dr. Moon said Heavenly Father has now summoned home this gallant statesman and promoter of peace for a new mission in the eternal world. May God bless his immortal soul and the people of Kenya always as a bright light of an African Renaissance, as we strive together to realize the dream of One Family under God. Moon said upon the invitation of President Kibaki, the Global Peace Foundation was incorporated in Kenya and has since been working with the Kenyan government and other partners on peacebuilding initiatives including programs to transform education through character education.
In November 2010, President Kibaki’s administration partnered with the Global Peace Foundation to host the Global Peace Convention 2010 with the theme “One Family under God: Conflict Resolution, Peace and Development.” The convention which came two years after the 2007/2008 post-election violence brought together more than 1,000 participants from 40 nations of the world.
President Kibaki flanked by Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and other leaders, used the occasion to call for stepped up support for peacebuilding efforts in Somalia and Sudan, and was joined by then Ethiopian President H.E. Girma Wolde-Giorgis and representatives of the Africa Union.
