A top ODM party organ will retreat to the Coast on Monday for an important meeting. They aim to tackle recent infighting.
ODM leader Oburu Oginga called the party’s Central Management Committee to meet at a Kilifi hotel.
The group plans to cover the fallout between top officials. They will also discuss the party’s role in the Broad-Based government. Plus, coalition talks with ruling UDA party top the list.
Many issues await discussion, said ODM National Treasurer Timothy Bosire. He confirmed the meeting.
Bosire added the party will share its stance on these matters after the session.
We plan open talks on public concerns. Then we will agree on fixes, he said.
Last week, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir pushed for the urgent meeting. He serves as deputy party leader.
Soon after, eight MPs from Nyanza held a press event. Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo and ODM Vice Chairperson Otiende Amollo led them. They also called for a meeting to sort differences.
Party leader Oburu Oginga must act fast. Call the organs now. Restore trust before we lose members to small groups. This intolerance hurts the revolutionary spirit Raila Odinga built on democracy, free speech, and justice, the MPs said on January 5, 2026.
Sharp divides mark the party now. Secretary General Edwin Sifuna clashes with chair Gladys Wanga and Minority Leader Junet Mohamed. Public fights rage between their camps.
Sifuna heads a group against working with President William Ruto in the Broad-Based setup. This stance led to demands to oust him.
Last weekend, efforts to fire Sifuna failed. ODM Trustees stepped in, including the late Raila’s widow Ida Odinga.
Ida showed her sway publicly. She hosted Nairobi MPs at her Karen home to mark Raila’s birthday.
I hear Ida Odinga. I will meet any ODM member, no matter the insults. Mama Ida wants us to talk. I am ready, Sifuna said after the event.
On Saturday, Oginga addressed doubts about his leadership role. Some members question it.
Those who doubt the leadership should attend the NDC. I fear no such meeting. I will call it soon, he said.
