Advocate Ndegwa Njiru defends Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. Sifuna serves as Orange Democratic Movement Secretary General. Party leaders push to remove him.
Njiru posted on his X account early January 5, 2025. He said Sifuna keeps his Senate seat even if he joins United Opposition.
Staying in ODM now harms Sifuna’s chances, Njiru argued. Nairobi stays an opposition base.
Sifuna attended a funeral in Murang’a recently. He joined ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other United Opposition figures. The event honored Embakasi North MP James Gakuya’s mother.
There, Sifuna criticized ODM leaders. He blamed National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed for undermining Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential bid.
ODM’s National Central Committee meets this week. They plan to discuss replacing Sifuna. Most leaders support his removal. Some name Narok Senator Ledama Olekina as a replacement.
Nandi Senator Cherargei also spoke out. He said ODM removes Sifuna as Secretary General this week. Senate leaders plan to drop him as Deputy Minority Whip too.
Cherargei added that Sifuna can then join those against the broad-based government.
