Kisumu Governor Calls for Urgent Action on Baby Samantha Pendo Murder Case

Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has urged Chief Justice Martha Koome to urgently intervene in the prolonged murder case of Baby Samantha Pendo, a six-month-old who tragically lost her life during post-election protests in 2017.

In a press statement issued on Friday, Governor Nyong’o expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the case against 12 police officers accused of the infant’s death, describing the delays as a “blatant violation of human rights.”

“I appeal to Chief Justice Martha Koome to prioritize this matter and ensure the case moves forward with the urgency it demands,” said Governor Nyong’o. He called for an investigation into whether any individuals or groups are sabotaging the case to shield certain parties from accountability.

As the Interim leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, Nyong’o cautioned that continued failures in the justice system could attract international scrutiny under the Rome Statute. He hinted at possible intervention from the International Criminal Court (ICC) if local courts continue to stall.

“We may be compelled to reach out to the ICC if the delays persist, as justice delayed is justice denied,” he concluded, emphasizing the need for swift justice in this tragic case.
