Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has said the opposition stands no realistic chance against the emerging alliance between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Siaya County on Monday, October 13, 2025, during a boda boda empowerment programme, Prof. Kindiki said the opposition had run out of ideas and turned to tribal politics after realizing that the unity government had gained ground across the country.
“Our two leaders are ahead of the rest, and we are following their example because the future of this country lies in a government built on unity and inclusion,” he said.
Kindiki accused opposition leaders of engaging in sideshows instead of offering real alternatives, describing them as politicians “groping in the dark” ahead of the next election. He said the partnership between President Ruto and Raila Odinga represents a new phase in Kenya’s leadership — one focused on development and national cohesion rather than constant political rivalry.
The Deputy President dismissed remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that the opposition would unite to defeat the Ruto–Raila coalition, saying the claim only revealed panic within the opposing camp.
Kindiki also took issue with politicians who have been making comments about Raila Odinga’s health, saying it was both disrespectful and un-African.
“It is shameful for leaders to use Raila’s health as a campaign tool. I spoke to him personally, and he is doing very well — strong, healthy, and resting. Those wishing him harm should know that it is against our traditions to hope for another person’s suffering,” he said.
The Deputy President commended Siaya Governor James Orengo for embracing the unity government and promised to ensure national projects in the region are completed without delay.
“Governor Orengo is a respected lawyer and reformist who has played a key role in the country’s journey to democracy. We will work with him to make sure Siaya continues to grow,” Kindiki added.
Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, who accompanied the Deputy President, criticized the opposition for showing disrespect to Raila Odinga, saying his contribution to Kenya’s democracy could not be matched.
“What Raila has done for this country, Gachagua could not achieve even if he lived for 200 years,” Cheruiyot said.
Siaya County has been one of the major beneficiaries of national development projects, among them the Sh550 million Siaya Stadium, which stands as a symbol of the government’s commitment to equitable growth.
