The officer, identified as Police Constable Jillo Maalim Lucas, served at Mikindani Police Station in Mombasa County.
On Monday, officers from Mazeras Police Station reported the recovery of an unidentified man’s body from Bonje, which was subsequently transported to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.
Colleagues and family members identified PC Jillo at the mortuary, ensuring his identity was confirmed.
Investigators promptly visited the scene at Bonje Shopping Centre, where preliminary findings revealed that the officer’s body was wedged between two isolated shipping containers on the shopping centre’s outskirts.
While police have not yet disclosed the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death or indicated any suspicion of foul play, the investigation is ongoing. The body remains at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The officer’s family has been notified of this heartbreaking news. Observations from investigators noted bruises on the deceased’s shoulder, the back of his head, and the fingers of his right hand, leading police to suspect that he may have been killed elsewhere before his body was discarded at the scene.
A dedicated team revisited the location on Tuesday as part of their thorough investigation into what is believed to be a murder.
In a separate incident, an 18-year-old man was discovered deceased in an irrigation canal within a rice plantation in Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu County, in what appears to be a drowning incident.
The body of Kevin Odhiambo Oketch was found by local residents on Sunday morning at Kanunga Village while they were engaged in routine farming activities.
Police officers promptly retrieved the body from the irrigation scheme. An examination at the scene revealed no visible physical injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Kevin had been dealing with a long-standing mental disorder. His father informed investigators that his son often left home unnoticed due to his condition.
Authorities suspect that the teenager may have accidentally fallen into the irrigation canal and tragically drowned. The body has been moved to the mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination as the investigation into this incident continues.
