Kiambu Governor James Nyoro sacks 48 board members

Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has sacked 48 municipal council members who sat in the World Bank ward committee , after it emerged that most of them were unqualified for the positions.

The individuals who were appointed by the former governor Ferdinand Waititu during his gubernatorial bid in 2017 went without vetting for the positions held.

It emerged that most members were either holders of KCPE or Standard Seven drop outs. Mr. Nyoro confirmed that the members had been relieved of their duties, saying their appointments were in total disregard of the law.

Mr. Nyoro has in the past cited inconsistencies with with county duties and a mismatch in skills , thus affecting service delivery within the county.

A senior county official revealed that the World Bank had raised concerns over the composition of the board members in some projects it had partnered with the devolved government, saying they were unfit and unable to interpret policies to the people they were representing.

“After the issue was raised we realized that most the members had not gone past primary education or even had experience in any professional field, yet they were put in-charge of multi-billion projects funded by the World Bank. Legally a board member is required to have at least a diploma in any relevant field,” added Governor Nyoro.
