Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka emphasized that the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) would signify a rejection of the values championed by the late Raila Odinga.
In an interview on Herman Manyora’s podcast aired on March 27, 2026, the former vice president expressed his admiration for Sifuna, highlighting his longstanding trust from the late former Prime Minister.
Kalonzo noted that since Odinga’s passing, there have been concerted efforts to oust Sifuna from the Orange Party, undermining the essence of ODM. He asserted that without Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, ODM would no longer reflect the vision Raila cultivated over two decades, describing it instead as a “William Ruto ODM” devoid of its original spirit.
“If ODM expels Sifuna, they are discarding the principles of Raila Odinga. This shift would transform ODM into something entirely different, possibly a RutoS ODM,” he stated.
Kalonzo praised Sifuna’s embodiment of the same patriotic spirit displayed by Gen Z youths during protests. He affirmed that if ODM were to part ways with Sifuna, the United Opposition stands ready to collaborate with him, emphasizing that Sifuna’s courage is essential for the nation.
Furthermore, Kalonzo expressed his commitment to mentoring ODM rebels, particularly Sifuna, for future political and leadership roles, asserting that Sifuna is well-prepared, having learned from the “Raila Odinga School of Politics.”
This statement follows a recent ruling by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal, which dismissed a case aimed at removing Sifuna as ODM Secretary-General, redirecting it to the party’s internal mechanisms before any court action.
At ODM’s Special Delegates Conference, many members of the Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi faction, including Godfrey Osotsi, faced removal from key party positions.
