Detectives are actively investigating a tragic incident involving the death of a 52-year-old charcoal vendor, Adan Adow Abdullahi, who was shot and mutilated in a suspected bandit attack in Garbatulla, Isiolo County.
On Thursday morning, August 14, police officers discovered Abdullahi’s body at his homestead after it had reportedly been moved to Manyatta Prison within Garbatulla town. Abdullahi had ventured into a thicket to burn charcoal on Wednesday afternoon when he likely encountered armed bandits.
The attackers shot him in the left side of the abdomen, with the bullet exiting through his back. Furthermore, reports indicate that they severed his left hand and mutilated his genital organs.
Authorities are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, focusing on identifying the assailants and understanding their motives. A medical practitioner examined the body and subsequently released it to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. The police are committed to pursuing a thorough investigation into this brutal crime.
In a separate case, police in Gucha South, Kisii County, arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the death of his 54-year-old father, Nyagwanga Jared Obonyo, following an alleged assault at their home in Tabaka Centre. The deceased was pronounced dead upon arrival at Tabaka Mission Hospital on Friday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Obonyo was last seen with his son, who had reportedly picked him up from a neighbor’s home. The son allegedly became angered when he demanded that his father produce a packet of Sportsman cigarettes. They returned home, where the son is accused of locking the gate before assaulting his father.
Neighbors reported hearing cries for help but were unable to intervene due to the locked gate. During the assault, the suspect was allegedly armed with a panga. After some time, he was seen carrying his father on a bicycle to Tabaka Mission Hospital, where the father was declared dead.
Police processed and documented the scene, finding the deceased with a swollen face, blood stains around his mouth, and bruises on his right hand. His body has been moved to the Tabaka Mission Hospital mortuary, pending a postmortem examination. The suspect is in police custody and is expected to be arraigned at Etago Law Courts on August 17, 2026, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death continue.
