Siaya Governor James Orengo has issued a strong warning ahead of the upcoming Linda Mwananchi rally at KaOwuor Grounds in Kisumu on Sunday, April 26, 2026. He cautioned against any attempts to incite violence, emphasizing that those responsible for orchestrated disruptions are well-known and their motives are clear.
In a statement on his X account, Orengo expressed confidence in the community’s awareness of the individuals behind the violence, stating, “We are fully aware of those orchestrating violence and the interests they serve.”
He urged those intending to cause unrest to reconsider their actions, asserting that the Linda Mwananchi movement remains an unstoppable force, undeterred by past incidents at their rallies. “Abandon your schemes; this movement is an unstoppable force. The voice of the people is the voice of God. Let’s gather at KaOwuor Grounds!” Orengo declared.
The Linda Mwananchi faction has confirmed its commitment to the rally despite heightened political tensions following an attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu on April 8, 2026. Leaders from the movement have reiterated that recent acts of violence will not hinder their political engagement across Western Kenya.
In a contrasting view, Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi expressed skepticism about the rally’s success during an interview on the Herman Manyora podcast on April 23, 2026. He asserted that the residents of Kisumu are not interested in attending the event, stating, “It will not happen; nothing will make the rally successful unless the local community shows interest.”
Atandi further claimed that the Linda Mwananchi team is resorting to bringing in university students from institutions around Kisumu to bolster attendance, as he believes the local populace is disinterested. “There is no mwananchi who wants to attend the rally. They are organizing students from Maseno and other universities, but the people of Kisumu are not interested,” he remarked.
In contrast, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino firmly asserted that the rally must proceed, regardless of any opposition or intimidation. The decision to hold the rally in Kisumu follows a recent incident where Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was injured by individuals believed to be affiliated with violence, resulting in his hospitalization for three days.
In a bold display of resilience, the movement aims to convey that they will not be silenced or intimidated by such acts of aggression.
