Jakoyo Midiwo’s widow to run for Gem parliamentary seat

Dr. Rose Olayo Midiwo one of the widows left behind by former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo has declared that she will run for Gem parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket.

Dr. Rose said her experience in public and private sector will be his major strength. She acknowledged the hard task ahead but believes the people of Gem will elect him to full fill the dreams of her late husband.

Rose distanced her self froms claim that the family had endorsed Dr. Jalang’o Midiwo to run for the seat reiterating that such decisions should be made by the people of Gem.

Rose Olayo is a researcher and senior lecturer at the Great Lakes University which is based in Kisumu County. Previously she was a lecturer at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

During the burial of Jakoyo Midiwo former prime minister assured members of ODM a free and fair nomination exercise. Others i the race to unseat current MP Elisha Odhiambo are Communists Party of Kenya’s Booker Ngesa Omole, Siaya CEC Adrian Ouma and Dr. Jalang’o Midiwo.

The late Washington Jakoyo Midiwo who died on 14th June 2021 represented Gem Constituency in the Kenya National Assembly from the year 2002 until 2017 under the Orange Democratic Movement.
