University of Nairobi Senior Professor Owiti K’akumu has quit the 2022 Gem constituency parliamentary race saying that he is tired of being disrespected and insulted by class two drop outs.
The university Don has decried the fact that in Gem politics even a class 2 dropout want to argue with a Professor, and has added that the incessant begging culture from the majority poor Gem residents irritate him.

Gem is one of the the constituencies in Siaya County and is currently represented in Parliament by Hon. Elisha Odhiambo who was elected in 2017 on an ODM ticket. Before that, the late Hon. Jakoyo Midiwo was a long serving Gem legislator on an ODM party ticket in the CORD coalition.
