Coulibaly was handpicked by President Ouattara to be the ruling party’s Presidential candidate
The Prime Minister of Ivory Coast who is also the ruling party Rally of the Republicans ’s presidential candidate in Ivory Coast’s October election has died just days after coming back from a two months’ treatment in France.
The 61-year-old, fell sick during a weekly cabinet meeting and was rushed to a hospital where he passed on Wednesday July 8, 2020.
Making the announcement Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara said in a statement “Fellow compatriots, Ivory Coast is mourning. It is with deep pain that I announce to you that Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly has left us.”
President Ouattara has described Coulibaly as his closest ally spanning 30 years and posted on his twitter, “I salute the memory of a statesman, of great loyalty, devotion and love for the homeland. He embodied this young generation of Ivorian leaders of great skill and extreme loyalty to the Nation.”
