The Independent Electoral and Boundary commission (IEBC) has announced new schedules for by elections in the affected areas.
The commission announced December 15, 2020 as the ideal date for Msambweni constituency, Kisumu north, Kahawa Wendanyi, Dabaso, Mbale and Lake view wards by elections. The dates had previously been postponed after the break out of Covid-19 infections across Tue country.
IEBC through its chairman Wafula Chebukati said that the challenges posed by the the pandemic led to the postponement of the dates.
President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the dusk to dawn curfew and ban on the social gathering as a way of controlling the spread of the virus. These restrictions according to the commission, would affect their activities hence the need of indefinite postponement.
Different political parties have called for interested members for the seats to submit their applications and credentials to their offices.
Orange Democratic Movement (Odm) yesterday called upon those interested in Msambweni Constituency to submit their applications to the Orange house office before Monday September 21.
Msambweni Constituency was formerly represented by an Odm member the late Suleiman Dori who died early March this year.
The Independent electoral and boundaries commission announced gazetted the new date on September 16, 2020.
