The much awaited Global Peace Leadership Africa VIRTUAL Conference kicked off on 30th July Thursday morning with participants from around the world.
The conference organised by the Global Peace Foundation Kenya in partnership with the Standard Group PLC and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, brought together a variety of stakeholders to discuss education and sustainable peace and development especially during the Corona-virus pandemic.
Speakers in the opening plenary included the President of Global Peace Foundation International Mr. James P. Flynn, Industrialist and Global Peace Foundation Kenya patron Dr. Manu Chandaria, Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, Chairman of NCIC Dr. Samuel Kobia, UN Kenya Resident Coordinator Mr. Siddharth Chatterjee, Standard Group CEO Mr. Orlando Lyomu, Archbishop Ole Sapit of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Businesswoman Dr. Esther Muchemi, and the Ugandan Minister for Public Service of Hon. Muruli Mukasa. The session was moderated by the Country Director of the Global Peace Foundation Kenya Mr. Daniel Juma and KTN Anchor Mr. Aby Agina.
“Leaders are valued by proactively building peace at every level,” said President Flynn. On his part, Dr. Chandaria insisted that humanity must find ways of reaching out to one another when faced with challenges such as the pandemic, a point which was also emphasized by Mr. Orlando Lyomu and other panelists.
Devolution Cabinet Secretary Hon. Eugene Wamalwa officially opened the conference on behalf of President Kenyatta and called upon leaders to increase cross border trade as opposed to cross border conflicts.
