Samidoh Declares Ol Joro Orok MP Bid

Mugithi musician Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, widely known as Samidoh, has officially announced his candidacy for the position of Member of Parliament for the Ol Joro Orok Constituency in Nyandarua County.

In a heartfelt message to the residents, Samidoh emphasized that he is pursuing this role not solely due to his fame as a musician, but because of his deep-rooted connection to the constituency and his aspiration to engage directly in leadership and decision-making.

“Distinguished residents of Nyandarua County, I am honored to present my candidacy for the role of Member of Parliament for Ol Joro Orok Constituency,” he declared.

Samidoh characterized Ol Joro Orok as his home, highlighting that his political journey is deeply intertwined with his personal experiences and the challenges he overcame during his upbringing.

“I proudly identify as a son of Ol Joro Orok. This is my home, where my journey began,” he affirmed.

The musician shared his story of being orphaned at a young age, facing significant hardships before establishing a career in the Kenya Police Service and ultimately transitioning into the music industry.

“My journey is not one of privilege. Orphaned at a young age and confronted with adversity, I had every reason to give up. Yet, I persevered,” he stated.

Samidoh credited his determination, faith, and hard work for his rise through the ranks, enabling him to create a life he once thought was unattainable.

He experienced a fulfilling career in the Kenya Police Service before embracing the music world, which allowed him to travel extensively across Kenya and internationally.

“My journey has taken me from the villages of Ol Joro Orok to stages across this nation and around the globe. It has connected me with diverse people, communities, institutions, and opportunities that I could never have envisioned in my youth,” he expressed.

However, Samidoh clarified that his motivation to seek elected office does not stem from his celebrity status.

“Today, I am not presenting myself for this position because of my musical career or my fame. My name may be recognized nationwide, but that is not the basis of my candidacy,” he asserted.

He reflected on his years of using music to highlight the issues faced by ordinary Kenyans, leading him to realize that mere discussions about change are insufficient.

“There comes a pivotal moment when mere dialogue about change is inadequate. One must seize the opportunity to engage directly in the institutions where decisions are made, laws are enacted, and national resources and policies are shaped,” he articulated.

Samidoh also mentioned his involvement in the “One Term” campaign, which reinforced his belief in the necessity for citizens to hold their leaders accountable and demand transparency.

He expressed his desire to bring his advocacy to Parliament, describing it as the essential institution for representing citizens’ voices.

“Parliament transcends being just a building; it is the House where the people’s voice must resonate, where laws are crafted, where the government is held accountable, and where the interests of our communities deserve a strong and informed representation,” he explained.

Education stands out as a crucial issue on Samidoh’s leadership agenda should he be elected.

He envisions an Ol Joro Orok where no child remains at home due to financial constraints related to schooling.

He also proposed alleviating the financial burden on parents of day-school students, suggesting that families contribute to food and other mutually agreed necessities while the government progressively addresses school fees.

Samidoh recognized the hardworking farmers, professionals, traders, entrepreneurs, women, and youth in Ol Joro Orok, asserting that their potential can be unlocked through improved representation and access to opportunities.

His entry into the political race is anticipated to bring a fresh perspective to the contest in the constituency, as the popular musician aims to leverage his public profile and experiences into a compelling electoral platform ahead of the 2027 General Election.
