Kenyan Olympic champion Emmanuel Korir won the men’s 800 metres World title at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Oregon.

Korir replaced American Donavan Brazier as the world champion earning Kenya her second gold at the championships, while Emmanuel Wanyonyi narrowly missed out on the medal bracket.

Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati got silver, while Canada’s Marco Arop settled for bronze with world U-20 champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi finishing fourth. Korir is now both an Olympic and World champion after winning the Tokyo Olympics last year.

Reigning African champion Beatrice Chebet won silver in the women’s 5000 metres finishing behind Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay, who extended her country’s impeccable run in the championships. Tsegay had won silver medal in the 1,500 metres earlier in the week.
