Deputy President William Samoei Ruto made an impromptu visit to the Pangani based Jubilee House shortly after the Secretary General Raphael Tuju released a press statement regarding the Msambweni by-election.
Through a written speech read today at the party headquarter, the Secretary General Raphael Tuju stated that the party had made a resolution not to field a candidate in the forthcoming Msambweni parliamentary by-election. According to Tuju, the decision was arrived at in the wake of internal party consultations and after considering “other school of thought prevailing in the political arena”. The seat became vacant following the demise of the then ODM legislator Mr. Suleiman Ramadhan Dori.
Today’s abrupt visit by the Deputy President comes a day after he made a similar courtesy call yesterday to the Jubilee offices. Factions allied to the Tangatanga wing have been advocating for the Jubilee party to field a candidate in the impending by election with the other Kieleweke side opposing it in a bid to avoid rubbing shoulders with the handshake side Orange Democratic Movement.
