On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Babu Owino, the MP for Embakasi East, paid an emotional visit to Opoda Farm and Kang’o ka Jaramogi, two sites he deemed deeply symbolic to Kenya’s political heritage and the Odinga family legacy.
The Member of Parliament stated that he had travelled there to pay his respects, pay tribute to Mama Ida Odinga, and reflect on the memory of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whose legacy continues to shape the country’s political narrative.
Babu Owino expressed his sentiments through an X post on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, stating that his visit to the two homesteads was imbued with a sense of reverence and connection to Kenya’s history.
He wrote that today, he visited Opoda and Kang’o ka Jaramogi, locations imbued with a rich legacy and a sense of honour.
During the visit, Owino met Mama Ida and gave her a Bible, which he described as a representation of spiritual resilience for the family during a challenging time.
“A statement says that with deep respect, I gave Mama Ida Odinga a Holy Bible, a sacred guide to help her find her way, give her the strength she needs, and a source of inspiration for every step of her journey.”
The MP also took traditional offerings with him as an extra token of respect for the Odinga family. In numerous Kenyan cultures, these gestures are employed to pay tribute to elderly individuals and demonstrate unity.
“In a similar display of veneration, I presented the bulls as a symbol of esteem and an enduring expression of tribute,” the statement reads.
Babu Owino ended his statement by giving credit to Raila Odinga, who is affectionately called Baba by his fans. A heartfelt reflection brought to the fore the essence of a leader who has played a central role in shaping national politics.
“May Baba’s soul rest in peace,” the statement says.
