IEBC Confirms Readiness for Today’s By-Elections Across 22 Areas

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has stated that it is fully prepared for the by-elections scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 27, 2025, across 22 electoral areas, with assurances of a transparent, secure, and well-coordinated process.

In a press statement released on Wednesday evening, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon confirmed that all logistical and operational arrangements had been completed.

Polling stations will commence operations at 6:00 am and conclude operations at 5:00 pm, with any schedule disruptions made up for to guarantee that all qualified voters are given an opportunity to participate.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is informing the country that all preparations for the by-elections scheduled for Thursday, the 27th of November 2025, across 22 electoral districts have now been finalized. Polling is scheduled to begin at 6:00 A.M. in all designated polling locations, according to the statement.

The Commission has now completed the recruitment, training, and deployment of all polling officials. Election officials have also taken the required oath of confidentiality.

The IEBC also revealed that all strategic and non-strategic supplies, including ballots and KIEMS equipment, have already been sent to their respective polling stations. Pallets containing ballot papers were officially opened today in the presence of observers who had been accredited to ensure transparency.

Voter identification using biometric data.

Eligible voters will be identified using KIEMS kits, which draw on data from the certified 2022 Register of Voters. Copies of the register have been placed at polling stations for public verification prior to the elections.

Tight controls on voting confidentiality

The Commission has issued a clear warning that it is not permissible to take photographs of ballot papers within polling stations. Only after the count, agents will be permitted to take photographs of completed and verified result forms. After counting, a copy of each results form will also be displayed at the polling station.

Access to and conduct within tallying centres by stakeholders

The IEBC asked party representatives, observers, and journalists to treat polling officials with respect and refrain from interfering with the voting process.

“The Commission reiterated that presiding officers are entirely in control of polling stations, requesting stakeholders to submit any complaints calmly and courteously, supported by proof.”

Only authorized individuals displaying official identification will be allowed into vote counting facilities. Political leaders who took part in the tallying process were instructed to keep the peace and refrain from any actions that might interfere with the verification of the results.

Transparent Results Process.

After the polling has finished, the ballot boxes will be opened and the votes counted in full view of the agents, observers, and the media.

Afterwards, Returning Officers will confirm, gather, and make public constituency-level results before announcing the winners.

The public will also be able to access results via the IEBC results portal.

Security boosted

The IEBC is collaborating with the National Police Service to guarantee safety throughout the voting process. At least two officers will be stationed at every polling station, with extra patrol teams and rapid-response units operating throughout the affected areas.

The Commission gave voters a guarantee of a peaceful environment and urged them to report any suspicious incidents via official security channels.
