A police officer died in a hospital after a suspect attacked him while on duty in Rarieda Sub-County, Siaya County.
Police reported that the suspect fled the scene following the March 31 incident in Malele Village, Kagwa sub-location. Officers from the Aram Police Station had responded to an earlier report when they were ambushed by a man wielding a machete.
During the attack, Police Constable Walter Siocha suffered severe head injuries. Reinforcements from the Aram Police Station quickly arrived, rescuing the officers and securing the area.
Siocha was initially taken to Amoyo Health Care Facility and later referred to Bondo Sub-County Hospital for specialized care. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries while in treatment. His body has been moved to Lwak Mission Hospital Mortuary, pending a postmortem examination.
In response to the incident, police initiated a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large. Investigations are ongoing, and the family of the deceased officer has been notified. Tensions in the area have increased amid concerns about further operations to locate the suspect. The weapon used in the attack has not yet been recovered, as police continue to pursue it as evidence.
In a separate incident, a 60-year-old caretaker was fatally stabbed by suspected assailants in the Kipanga area of Nakuru West Sub-County. Police reported this incident occurred on the night of March 31, 2026, around 10:50 PM.
Officers from Rhonda Police Station responded to the stabbing and learned that the victim, Edwin Makani Mwanchi, had already been taken to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital. Preliminary investigations suggest that Mwanchi, who worked at Mbatia Enterprises, may have been targeted in a revenge attack by three young men previously evicted from the property.
The suspects allegedly held a grudge against the caretaker and confronted him before stabbing him twice in the chest and stomach. Mwanchi later died from his injuries at the hospital. His body has been transferred to the Nakuru PGH mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination.
Police are actively investigating the incident and following leads to identify and apprehend the suspects.
