Gachagua calls for ICC intervention over criminal gang allegations

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged his allied Members of Parliament to assemble a team of lawyers to draft a letter to the International Criminal Court (ICC), accusing the government of sponsoring a notorious criminal gang linked to crimes against humanity.

Speaking at a church service in Nyeri County on Sunday, Gachagua claimed that this criminal gang has instilled fear in the Mount Kenya region and has allegedly been reactivated by the government to incite chaos.

“In the late 80s, during President Moi’s rule, the government devastated the economy and became intolerant and dictatorial. When the people of this region began to voice their dissent, a criminal gang was formed to punish them,” Gachagua asserted, while also highlighting the ongoing abductions and calling out leaders for contributing to the nation’s crisis.

He was joined by his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia, former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, and several Members of the County Assembly, including Speaker James Gichuhi, among other local leaders.

Gachagua’s statements come amid growing concerns over security and governance in the region, as he seeks to mobilize support against what he perceives as government overreach and lawlessness.
