A minibus has this afternoon caused an accident on the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway, causing injuries to 26 passengers on board.
According to the area police boss, Mr Jos Mudavadi, the vehicle got tyre burst after one of the right rear wheel was detached from the other, causing the remaining wheel not able to be able to sustain the weight, which led to the tyre burst.
Athi River South Sub-County Police Commander, Jos Mudavadi, later reported that the accident. The accident happened a few meters from the Maanzoni Lodge area, around 1:30 pm on Thursday.
“It occurred today at about 1.30 pm along the Nairobi – Mombasa highway near the Mua Road flyover. It involved a motor vehicle, Mitsubishi FH minibus which was being driven by one Titus Nyamai Mboya aged 43 years,” Mudavadi told the Star by phone on Thursday.
“This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and it overturned in the middle of the road,” Mudavadi further said.
“About 25 others who boarded the minibus sustained soft tissue injuries and were all rushed to Machakos Level 5 hospital where they are undergoing treatment.”
The common mwananchi and all road users have been urged to be extra vigilant in this season of Christmas and New year festivities.
