The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has formally approached the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) regarding the violence and disruptions that occurred during a party meeting in Nembure, Embu County.
In a press release shared on its X account on Saturday, September 12, 2026, UDA Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar Hassan emphasized the need for immediate investigations into the incident and urged the implementation of appropriate actions if any violations of the law or relevant political party regulations are identified.
This statement follows the chaos that interrupted a UDA meeting, which was attended by Deputy Party Leader Kithure Kindiki and UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire at the Nembure Grounds.
UDA seeks regulatory action to address compliance issues within the electoral and political parties’ framework. The party has requested that the IEBC and ORPP promptly investigate the incident and initiate the necessary proceedings for any breaches of the applicable Code of Conduct and other relevant legal provisions.
“Thus, UDA officially petitions the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) to urgently investigate this incident and take appropriate measures for any breaches of the relevant legal and regulatory frameworks,” stated the announcement.
Furthermore, UDA has called upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the reported violence, property damage, and injuries.
Reports indicate that several vehicles were set ablaze during the incident, including one belonging to a journalist, and multiple individuals sustained injuries.
Kindiki condemned the violence and urged political leaders to engage in healthy competition through policy discussions rather than confrontational tactics.
“Let us respect one another. Everyone should present their policies. This is beneath us,” Kindiki stated.
UDA advocates for peaceful political engagement, asserting that political environments should foster democratic participation and the sharing of ideas. The party urges the relevant institutions to thoroughly investigate the events at Nembure and take appropriate actions based on their findings.
This incident arises amid escalating political competition in Embu as the 2027 General Election approaches, with leaders and parties increasingly convening grassroots meetings throughout the region.
