Mzee Mohamed Mwandugu, the esteemed chairman of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Kisauni Branch, has sadly passed away after a brief illness.
ODM Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa Governor, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, confirmed this loss in a heartfelt statement on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
Nassir honored Mwandugu’s dedication to leadership and expressed his condolences to the grieving family.
“I am profoundly saddened by the passing of Mr. Mwandugu Mohamed, the ODM Chairman for Kisauni Constituency. His unwavering service and leadership significantly impacted both the party and the community. I extend my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues. May the Almighty grant them strength during this difficult time, and may his soul find eternal peace,” the governor stated.
Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary, Hassan Joho, also expressed his sorrow over Mzee Mwandugu’s passing, referring to him as a mentor.
On his X account, Joho shared that Mwandugu’s guidance and steadfast support were pivotal in shaping his political journey.
“I received the news of Mwandugu’s death with deep grief. He was a man whose wisdom and counsel I cherished greatly,” Joho reflected.
Joho fondly remembered his political mentor, stating, “Mzee Mwandugu was not only a long-serving ODM Kisauni Branch Chairman; he was my mentor, trusted confidant, and political adviser.”
He emphasized that Mwandugu’s wise counsel, support, and belief in his potential were instrumental in establishing the groundwork for his political career. “His unwavering support and deep faith in my abilities have left an indelible mark on my journey. His guidance and friendship will always hold a special place in my heart,” Joho added.
The former governor acknowledged the profound void left by Mwandugu’s passing, which will be keenly felt by his family, friends, colleagues, and the broader Kisauni community.
Joho extended his condolences to Mwandugu’s family, relatives, friends, and the Kisauni community as they navigate their grief.
“With his departure, I have lost a dear friend, a mentor, and a man whose wisdom I greatly valued,” he remarked.
Mwandugu’s legacy as the ODM Kisauni Branch chairman solidified his status as a significant figure within the party’s grassroots framework in Mombasa.
His passing occurs as ODM continues to enhance its mobilization efforts and strengthen its structures nationwide, particularly following the loss of its former leader, Raila Odinga.
