UDA’s David Keter Wins Emurua Dikirr MP By-Election

David Kipsang Keter, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, has won the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election, receiving 18,266 votes in the competitive May 14 election.

Caleb Gekonde, the IEBC Returning Officer for the Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County, announced Keter’s victory over Democratic Congress Party (DCP) candidate Vincent Kibet Rotich, who received 10,760 votes.

National Vision Party (NVP) candidate Gideon Koech placed third with 190 votes, while Cherono Desma from the Party of National Unity (PNU) secured 80 votes. Reform Liberation Party (RLP) candidate Kiprono Rotich received 62 votes.

The IEBC reported a total of 29,538 votes cast out of 44,353 registered voters, resulting in a voter turnout of 66.6%.

The by-election was necessitated by the passing of former MP Johana Ngeno, who tragically died in a helicopter crash in Nandi County on February 28, alongside five others. Keter, who previously ran against Ngeno, won the UDA parliamentary ticket with 13,759 votes, narrowly defeating Bernard Kipkoech Ng’eno, the former MP’s assistant, who received 13,394 votes.

In other news, UDA also achieved success in the Endo Ward County Assembly by-election in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Festus Korir Kiprop of UDA won with 4,475 votes, while Shadrack Kosgei Chelang’a of the NDP party received 752 votes. The IEBC reported a voter turnout of 36.59%, with 5,260 votes cast out of 14,361 registered voters.

In Samburu County’s Porro Ward by-election, UDA candidate Daniel Lolngojine emerged victorious with 2,328 votes, while Josphat Jumani Leleur of KANU came in second with 1,036 votes. The voter turnout in Porro Ward was 65.96%, with a total of 4,194 votes cast out of 6,358 registered voters.
