
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) mourns the loss of veteran Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Job Masakhue Lukuru Obwaka, recognizing him as a distinguished leader in women’s healthcare and a mentor to countless doctors.
In a condolence statement released on May 1, 2026, KMPDU highlighted Obwaka’s extensive service to the medical field in Kenya. Trained at the University of Nairobi, he significantly impacted women’s health and shaped the careers of future medical professionals.
KMPDU expressed deep sorrow over Dr. Obwaka’s passing, noting his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors at The Nairobi Hospital.
The union praised his professionalism, clinical expertise, and unwavering commitment to patient care. They acknowledged his leadership in key health institutions, which played a vital role in advancing healthcare across the country.
“Dr. Obwaka served the medical profession in Kenya with distinction for many years,” the statement affirmed. “He made significant contributions to women’s health and the mentorship of generations of doctors.”
KMPDU extended heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues at The Nairobi Hospital, and the broader medical community, standing in solidarity during this time of grief. “May his soul rest in peace.”
Kenya Medical Association Chairman Dr. Simon Kigondu confirmed the news, calling Obwaka’s death a significant loss for the medical community. He passed away while being rushed to the hospital.
“Just 45 days after we rescued Job from unfounded charges related to the Nairobi Hospital issue, we are left in mourning. This is a very sad day for the gynecology fraternity,” Kigondu stated on Facebook.
Dr. Obwaka recently faced scrutiny over governance disputes at Nairobi Hospital, culminating in his arrest alongside other officials.
