A night out took a tragic turn when police discovered 35-year-old businessman Alfred Muriithi Muriuki dead in his car, following an alleged drink-spiking incident. Authorities have initiated a manhunt for those responsible for his death.
Muriuki was found unresponsive on Sunday morning in the Gathoge area of Kirinyaga County. His vehicle was parked along the Difathas–Gituto murram road in Njukiini, with the engine running and the doors ajar. Inside, he was slumped in the driver’s seat, unconscious, with visible vomit on his cheek.
Emergency services transported him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Witnesses reported seeing an unidentified woman hurriedly leaving the scene, carrying a bag and heading toward Difathas shopping centre shortly before the discovery.
Detectives suspect that Muriuki may have been drugged, prompting a murder investigation to determine the substance involved. Investigators have visited a local club where Muriuki spent several hours prior to the incident, reviewing CCTV footage to identify individuals, including women who were with him.
As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made, but police are following promising leads. The body has been moved to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to shed light on the cause of death.
Authorities have noted a troubling increase in drink-spiking incidents at entertainment venues, with some victims suffering severe consequences or even losing their lives. Police urge the public to remain vigilant while socializing and to stay close to trusted friends.
In response to this growing concern, officials have deployed a specialized team to track and dismantle the criminal networks associated with these incidents.
