The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji on Thursday August 27, ordered for the arrest of Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa over the the theft of over Kshs. 20 million NGCDF funds.
Haji also ordered for the arrest of seven officials from Malindi National Government Constituency Development funds and others from a contractor company. The Malindi NG-CDF manager Mr Omar Wachu, four officials and government engineer Kennedy Otieno were arrested on Thursday and taken to a Mombasa custody from where they will be taken to court.
The loss of funds resulted from the construction of Malindi education office which according to the financial crime investigation unit chairperson Mr Mike Muia, ended up in Aisha Jumwa’s personal accounts.
“After the payments were done, most of the money that was paid for that project was wired into the MP’s bank account” Muia explained.
Aisha Jumwa’s arrest comes barely a day after the Migori County governor Zachariah Obado together with some of his relatives were arrested and denied a bail over misappropriation of more than 50million public funds.
