The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has refused to issue temporary orders to halt the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Special Delegates Conference (SDC), scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2026.
Several ODM members, including Vincent Chepkwony and four others, submitted petitions seeking to block the upcoming meeting.
On Thursday, March 26, 2026, the tribunal, led by acting chairperson Gad Gathu, determined that there was insufficient grounds for granting the conservatory orders.
The tribunal noted that the petitioners failed to demonstrate how suspending the meeting would safeguard their rights or prevent irreparable harm.
“The applicants have not shown that the cases would lose their significance,” the tribunal stated.
Chepkwony argued that the party did not hold a National Delegates Convention (NDC) to elect the Interim Party Leader, Oburu Oginga, as required by the party’s constitution following the passing of Raila Odinga on October 15, 2025.
He maintained that certain members, claiming to be part of the Central Committee and National Executive Committee (NEC), convened meetings and made decisions, including resolutions on October 16, 2025, and February 11, 2026, without proper constitutional authority.
“On October 16, 2025, certain ODM members, identifying themselves as the Central Committee, hastily met and allegedly passed a resolution to install Oburu Odinga as the interim party leader,” the application states.
As an active ODM member, Chepkwony sought declarations asserting that the interim party leader and current national officials are in office illegally, that the NEC and Central Committee decisions lack validity, and that the SDC should be suspended until the resolution of their cases.
He requested a declaration that any decisions made by the current National Executive Committee and Central Committee of the ODM party are illegal and do not bind the Orange Democratic Movement Party or its members.
Additionally, he sought an order to annul the decisions made by those self-identifying as the National Executive Committee and Central Committee of ODM regarding the appointment of Hon. Dr. Oburu Odinga as Interim Party Leader and the resolutions made on February 11, 2026.
