Kenya National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has successfully apprehended a suspect linked to a prominent drug trafficker and confiscated a significant quantity of cannabis in Naivasha. This operation aims to disrupt narcotics distribution networks across the region.
A multi-agency security team, spearheaded by NACADA and supported by the National Police Service and National Government Administration Officers, executed the operation in the afternoon.
Authorities confirmed that this raid aligns with a Presidential directive mandating a nationwide crackdown on drug and substance abuse.
At the scene, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa identified the suspect as a close associate of a known drug kingpin operating within Naivasha. The arrest resulted from extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering, which pinpointed the suspect’s location in a residential estate.
“This successful operation exemplifies our unwavering commitment to combatting drug traffickers who threaten our communities,” Omerikwa stated. He emphasized that this arrest follows another significant victory for the authority in Naivasha.
Omerikwa revealed that NACADA recently dismantled a major cannabis trafficker, who now awaits a court ruling after being apprehended with drugs valued at over Sh5 million.
“This arrest comes on the heels of another major cannabis trafficker’s capture in this very town,” he said. “This operation has delivered a substantial blow to a sophisticated trafficking ring.”
He credited the operation’s success to enhanced collaboration among security agencies and the effective use of actionable intelligence.
“We are actively pursuing the remaining two major drug kingpins in this town,” Omerikwa asserted. “Intelligence reports indicate their operations extend across four neighboring counties, but we are determined to bring them to justice.”
He cautioned others involved in the illegal drug trade, noting that the campaign now targets not only low-level dealers but also aims to dismantle entire criminal networks behind drug trafficking.
“NACADA is closing in on drug lords, their associates, and their financiers,” he declared.
“This ongoing pursuit, which includes aggressive asset seizure and forfeiture to the state, will continue resolutely to ensure these criminal enterprises face maximum consequences.”
Local residents welcomed the operation, expressing relief over the arrest and seizure. Several community members shared their concerns about the rampant drug trafficking in their area.
“We are thankful for this arrest. Our youth are suffering due to these drugs, and dealers have operated too freely,” remarked Mary Wanjiru, a community elder. “We hope this marks the beginning of a larger effort to catch more of these individuals. Our children deserve protection.”
The suspect remains in custody and is undergoing processing ahead of arraignment in court on charges of trafficking narcotic drugs. The cannabis, valued in the millions of shillings, has been seized as evidence.
Authorities highlighted that this operation signifies a broader escalation in the government’s war on drugs, with renewed emphasis on dismantling supply chains and targeting high-profile figures within the narcotics trade.
