Police are investigating spate of murders reported in Nyamira and Nairobi counties, heightening alarming concerns over rising cases of violent killings in the country.
In Bonyunyu village, Nyamira County, a 30-year-old woman was found murdered inside her home on September 29. The body of Agnes Moraa Monda was discovered seated on a chair with visible injuries around her neck.
According to police, her husband later surrendered at Mokomoni Police Post, confessing that a domestic quarrel between the two escalated fatally. He told officers he feared angry villagers would lynch him if he did not hand himself over. Moraa’s body was transferred to a local mortuary pending postmortem.
The killing comes amid a disturbing trend of domestic-related murders, which police partly link to love triangles and unresolved disputes within families. Several similar cases are still active in court.
The same day, residents of the same village were shaken by another killing. The body of Clinton Momanyi, 21, was found dumped by the roadside. Police said he had been attacked elsewhere before being left in the area, with his head bearing multiple deep cuts and his hands tied with a sisal rope. Detectives suspect vigilante groups may be behind the killing.
Meanwhile, in Nairobi’s Buruburu area, the body of an unidentified man was discovered near a school. Security guards reporting for duty stumbled upon the lifeless body with head injuries. Police believe the man was attacked at the scene and link the incident to violent robberies targeting residents.
Nairobi police commander George Seda urged robbery victims to avoid resistance when confronted by attackers, warning that fighting back often leads to fatalities. He assured that patrols have been intensified in robbery hotspots across the city.
The government has acknowledged a surge in homicides targeting women and young men, promising broader investigations into the causes as families continue to grapple with grief.
