Salasya Terms SHA as “Scam” in Sharp Clash With Wamuchomba

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has responded sharply to Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba’s recent allegations that politicians are misleading Mt Kenya residents regarding the Social Health Authority (SHA).

In a post on his official X account early Sunday morning, February 1, 2026, Salasya labeled the SHA program a “scam,” directly challenging Wamuchomba’s assertion that the initiative is operational and effectively saving lives.

Salasya firmly questioned the validity of Wamuchomba’s claims about SHA’s functionality in delivering healthcare services to Kenyans. “SHA is a scam. SHA mission hospitals don’t accept it, and the majority of private hospitals reject the misleading information propagated by Aden Duale. I expected better judgment from you,” Salasya stated.

This exchange follows Wamuchomba’s vigorous criticism of what she termed the “Wantam brigade,” accusing them of intentionally deceiving Mt Kenya residents to obstruct their access to essential healthcare services for political advantage as the 2027 general elections approach.

On her official X account, late on the evening of January 31, 2026, Wamuchomba argued that the residents of Mt Kenya had been systematically “brainwashed” into doubting SHA’s effectiveness, resulting in widespread refusal to register for the program while other regions of Kenya continue to benefit from healthcare services funded through it. “People of Mt Kenya, we were misled into believing SHA is non-functional. We chose not to register, while other parts of Kenya have access to services that are already in place. You are left scrambling for every chance to support your ailing loved ones through daily fundraisers,” Wamuchomba remarked.

She further criticized the United Opposition, referring to them as the “Wantam brigade,” for disseminating misinformation to maintain political allegiance. Wamuchomba claimed that despite their public opposition to SHA, their MPs and senators have updated accounts and full access to the system. “The Wantam brigade continues to mislead you to keep you loyal, even as all their MPs and senators enjoy updated accounts in SHA. When you inquire, they tell you to wait until 2027 for a new government to benefit. It’s a deceitful ploy! Your health is not their priority; it’s all about elections and power dynamics. They will show up at your funeral and shout, WANTAM!” she declared.
