Detectives in Kiambu County have successfully retrieved a purloined G3 rifle, two magazines, and 68 rounds of 7.62×51mm ammunition. This confiscation followed a fatal communal assault on an armed perpetrator in the Magana area of Thika East Sub-County.
In a statement released on its official X account on December 5, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) announced that police in Kiambu County are currently investigating an incident in the Magana area of Thika East Sub-County, where an armed individual succumbed to injuries inflicted by members of the public.
Upon receiving intelligence from local administrators, officers from Munyu Police Station swiftly deployed to the scene. There, they secured a G3 rifle, two magazines, 68 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition, along with additional blank rounds, a penknife, and other pertinent items. The NPS confirmed that both the firearm and ammunition have been impounded and placed in police custody for comprehensive forensic and ballistic analysis.
Initial inquiries suggest that the recovered weapon is associated with a previous occurrence involving the unauthorized disappearance of a police firearm within the same Sub-County. Investigations into the full circumstances surrounding both incidents are actively proceeding.
While acknowledging the recovery, the National Police Service unequivocally condemned the vigilante action that led to the suspect’s demise. The NPS implored the public to abstain from acts of mob injustice and instead to report suspected criminal activities to law enforcement for appropriate and lawful intervention. The Service further encouraged sustained public collaboration in ongoing endeavors to retrieve illicit weaponry and bolster national security. Citizens were reminded to relay any pertinent information regarding illegal firearms or criminal activities through the NPS toll-free lines or to their nearest police station.
